Breaking Boundaries on Mera Peak (6,476m)
The Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition team proudly announces the successful summit and ski descent of Mera Peak (6,476m) on October 16, 2025. This achievement marks another significant milestone in the growing field of ski mountaineering in Nepal, blending high-altitude climbing with the thrill of skiing on pristine Himalayan snowfields.
Our compact yet determined team — Mr. Zhou Xinyong from China and Ningma Dorje Tamang from Nepal — reached the summit in perfect alpine style, overcoming strong winds and challenging snow conditions. After taking a brief moment to celebrate at the top of Mera Peak, they began an exhilarating ski descent from the upper slopes, carving their way down through one of the most breathtaking mountain landscapes in the world.
Expedition Journey
The team began their approach from Lukla, trekking through the remote Hinku Valley, one of Nepal’s most beautiful and untouched regions. After days of acclimatization and gradual ascent, they established their high camp at around 5,800m, preparing for the final summit push.
The summit day started before dawn, under a sky full of stars, with temperatures dropping below -20°C. By mid-morning, the climbers stood atop Mera Peak, gazing across a panorama that included Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu — a sight that never fails to inspire awe.
The descent on skis added an unforgettable dimension to the expedition, showcasing the vast potential of Nepal’s mountains not only for climbing but also for ski touring and adventure skiing.
Expanding the Spirit of Himalayan Skiing
This successful expedition is part of Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition’s ongoing effort to promote ski mountaineering in Nepal, encouraging both local and international athletes to explore new ways of experiencing the Himalayas.
For Ningma Dorje Tamang, who has already summited several 8,000-meter peaks, this climb was another step in his mission to blend traditional mountaineering with modern adventure sports. For Mr. Zhou Xinyong, the experience marked his first ski ascent and descent in the Himalayas — a dream come true.
Looking Ahead
Following this success, our team is already planning upcoming ski expeditions on other 6,000-meter peaks and specialized ski training programs to develop the next generation of ski mountaineers in Nepal.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Zhou Xinyong and Ningma Dorje Tamang for their teamwork, endurance, and pioneering spirit — and we invite adventure lovers from around the world to join us in exploring the Himalayas in this unique and exhilarating way.
