Overview

Introduction to Manaslu

The 8th-highest mountain in the world is Manaslu, which is at 8163 metres (26781ft), lying in the Himalayas, Nepal, Gorkha District. This is an awesome mountain which is located under the Mansiri Himal, and is one of the most beautiful mountains in the country. Due to its extreme and difficult paths, Manaslu is always visited by professionals all over the globe, especially climbers preparing for an Everest expedition.

Manaslu gets its name from one of the Sanskrit words named Manasa, which means soul or spirit. Manaslu is therefore known as the Mountain of the Spirit. The mountain has a cultural and religious importance to the people that live around the mountain since it is believed that there are magical powers and spirituality in the mountain.

Geographical Territory and Environment

Manaslu lies around 64km east of the Annapurna region. The area is surrounded by mountains and an icefield. The river known as Buddhi gandhi flow down through the region to form fantastic scenery and spectacular landscape.

The Manaslu region is not crowded, as it is the case with other famous trek regions found in Nepal. This makes it a quiet place of interest to the trekkers that would enjoy nature with not huge crowd. The physical attractiveness of the snow-covered mountain, the green forests and the waterfalls, as well as the old-fashioned villages, is what makes the area really special, and it also attracts adventurers preparing for an Everest expedition.

Climbing History and Everest Expedition Co

Japanese expeditioners Toshio Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu made the first attempt on May 9th 1956, to make a successful climb. Following this success, the Japanese climbers had a high interest in this mountain, and it took quite a while until this mountain was considered a Japanese Mountain.

Manaslu climbing is considered to be a difficult climb because of unpredictable weather, heavy snow and chances of an avalanche. However, it is often chosen by climbers who are preparing for an Everest expedition. Due to the fact that Manaslu lies above 8000 metres in altitude, it will give good experience to the mountaineers in dealing with the conditions of extreme altitude. It help the climber to practise the use of the oxygen systems, setting up of high camps and also altitude sickness before climbing Mount Everest.

Even though Manaslu is little bit lower than Everest, but it involves good physical fitness, training and technical mountaineering skills. Many mountaineers consider Manaslu an important preparation step before attempting an Everest expedition. Manaslu is a tough and serious undertake by a lot of climbers.

Manaslu Protected Area

Manaslu Conservation Area was established in 1998 in order to save the environment and the wildlife of the area. It is spread of around 1663 sq. Kms space. The biodiversity of the conservation area are very rich, and there are plenty of endangered and rare species.

There are wild animals like snow leopard, red panda and the Himalayan tahr, musk deer and blue sheep, etc. Plants, too, are very diverse in the region; rhododendron forest is the common plants, except for the alpai vegetation. This type of natural environment has sufficient protection that is fundamental to the future of tourism and local communities, including climbers visiting Nepal for trekking or an Everest expedition.

Culture and Aboriginal Community

The culture of Manaslu is very much inspired by the Tibetan culture. The Buddhist religion is followed by a large portion of the locals, and while wandering around the hiking trails, the visitors will find monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls and chortens. The people are humane and normal in their means of life.

The villages, like Samagaun and Samdo, provide an idea of the Himalayan culture. The local inhabitants are dependent on tourism, rearing of animals and agriculture. The guests are assured a very warm welcome, and can get a chance to explore special traditions, cuisine and festivals. Many trekkers and climbers on their way to an Everest expedition also visit similar Himalayan communities to experience the culture.

Manaslu Trek

The Manaslu Circuit trek takes for about 14 - 18 days on the whole to do it. On the way, people cross lovely views of the mountains, suspension bridges, forests and high mountain passes, for instance, Larkya La Pass (5,106 metres).

Many trekkers prefer trek Manaslu Circuit than Everest Base Camp trek due to the less crowd of tourist in the Manaslu Circuit trek. The peaceful environment, as well as the traditional life of the village, make for a very special trek. Some adventurers also trek in this region as part of their preparation for an Everest expedition.

Why Manaslu is Special

Manaslu is not only important as it is the highest but also as the beauty in terms of nature, cultural variety and mountaineering importance. For climbers planning an Everest expedition, Manaslu provides excellent high-altitude training. To the ramblers, it is a very rare opportunity to visit the unspoiled sceneries of Himalayas.

To conclude, Manaslu is much more than a mountain. It is a destination of adventure, soul, culture and nature. As much as one may desire to climb or hike the Himalayas, or just to witness the beauty of the same, Manaslu is one of the best treasures that Nepal offers and an important preparation destination for those planning an Everest expedition.
