Gasherbrum I and II Combo
Highlights of the Trip
Overview
Gasherbrum I and II Double Expedition.
Gasherbrum I and II Double Expedition is one of the most courageous mountaineering expeditions ever in the Karakoram Range in the Pakistani territory. It is a trip of a lifetime as climbers get a chance to climb two 8000-meter mountains within a trip. Gasherbrum I (8,080 m) or Hidden Peak and Gasherbrum II (8,035 m) are situated very near to each other and share the same base camp trail via the legendary Baltoro Glacier and Concordia area.
To seasoned climbers, this trip will be a physical challenge, technical challenge and a test of mental stamina. The difficulty is great, but the prize is as much the more remarkable--to be on the tops of two of the highest mountains of the world in the same adventure.
The Location and Route
Both Gasherbrum summits lie within the deepest part of Karakoram mountains in the North part of Pakistan, and borderline with China. The expedition starts with the expedition through the renowned Baltoro Glacier, which is one of the longest glaciers, which are not located at the poles.
It is now through the presence of some of the most dramatic mountains on the planet that the climbers traverse the stunningly beautiful Concordia, known as the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods. This is where the climbers arrive at the common Gasherbrum Base Camp, where both attempts at reaching the summit can be made.
This distant and spectacular setting transforms the expedition into a climbing endeavor as well as a spectacular adventurous experience in the midst of some of the most beautiful mountain sceneries in the world.
Climbing Gasherbrum II
In the expedition Gasherbrum II is usually first attempted. Even though it is said to be one of the more available 8000-meter peaks, it requires advanced mountaineering skills and high-altitude experience.
It is a summit ascent that includes glacier passes, crevasse fields and sharp snow-slopes. Before climbers make their ultimate summit charge, they put up multiple high camps. On the summit, there are beautiful vistas of Karakoram giants, Broad Peak and K2.
The successful experience of Gasherbrum II assists climbers in acclimatizing and equipping them to climb Gasherbrum I, which is more difficult.
Climber Gasherbrum I (Hidden peak).
Gasherbrum I is also known as Hidden Peak, is more technical and challenging than Gasherbrum II. The mountain is steeper, and one has to negotiate more complicated routes and be more exposed to conditions at higher altitudes.
Before climbing the peak, climbers need to closely regulate energy, weather intervals, and acclimatization. The last climb into the summit is physically exhausting but very gratifying with a panoramic approach of the whole Karakoram range.
The achievement of the peak of Gasherbrum I after Gasherbrum II is viewed as one of the greatest accomplishments in high-altitude climbing.
An analogy between Everest Expedition and Everest.
Although the most popular high-altitude climbing expedition in the world is the Everest expedition, the Gasherbrum I and II Double Expedition is another adventure of a different type. The Everest has set tracks and plethora of climbers per season. On the contrary, the Gasherbrum peaks are more distant, quieter, and technical.
Most climbers who already completed an expedition to Everest pick Gasherbrum I and II as their next goal to go even farther and have an experience with various mountains of 8000 meters.
The trip is created to accommodate very experienced climbing people with high levels of experience in high-altitude mountain climbing. The participants are expected to already have experience of climbing mountains above 6,500-7,000 meter-high and to be well-informed in technical proficiency in ice and snow climbing.
Climbers also have to be ready to extreme weather conditions, challenges of the altitude, and physical aspect of spending several weeks in isolated mountain conditions.
