Opening the Route to the Roof of Dhaulagiri Region

The Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition team proudly marks a historic achievement on Putha Hiunchuli (7,246m) this autumn season. Our climbers not only became the first to summit the mountain in Autumn 2025, but also opened the climbing route for all subsequent expeditions — followed by another of our teams achieving the first ski descent of the season.

On September 19 at 1:10 PM, Mr. Marius Stefan Goedecke from Germany and Prem Bahadur Tamang from Nepal successfully stood atop the summit of Putha Hiunchuli, making the first ascent of the 2025 autumn season. Their success came after days of challenging route fixing and weather delays in the remote Dhaulagiri region.

Just a few weeks later, on October 13 at 10:40 AM, our second team — Christian Winfried Ranke (Germany), David Jean Michel Lavie (France), and Lhakpa Sherpa (Nepal) — not only reached the summit but also accomplished the first ski descent of Putha Hiunchuli for the 2025 season, marking another milestone in the history of Himalayan ski mountaineering.

A Season of Determination and Discovery

The Putha Hiunchuli Expedition 2025 began with a vision: to push the boundaries of climbing and skiing in the western Himalayas. Our climbers faced unpredictable autumn weather, strong winds, and heavy snowpack, yet their teamwork, patience, and determination led them to success.

The first summit team opened the route through deep snow and crevasses, setting fixed lines up to the upper slopes and ensuring safety for the following teams. Their efforts made it possible for the ski team to later reach the top and descend on skis — an exceptional feat at over 7,000 meters.

From the summit, the team enjoyed breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri range and the arid Dolpo region — a truly Himalayan wilderness rarely visited by climbers and skiers alike.

Pioneering the Future of Ski Mountaineering in Nepal

These back-to-back achievements reinforce Himalayan Mountaineering Expedition’s commitment to pioneering high-altitude ski mountaineering in Nepal. By combining the traditions of Himalayan climbing with modern adventure sports, we continue to open new possibilities for the next generation of mountaineers and skiers.

We are extremely proud to be the first summiteers and skiers of Putha Hiunchuli in Autumn 2025, and we extend heartfelt congratulations to both our teams for their courage, endurance, and contribution to Himalayan exploration.

Looking Ahead

Following the success of the Putha Hiunchuli Expedition, our team plans to expand future ski and climbing expeditions to other 7,000-meter and 8,000-meter peaks — blending exploration, sport, and cultural connection in the heart of the Himalayas.

We invite climbers, skiers, and adventure enthusiasts from around the world to join us in these groundbreaking journeys.
